The KNUST Nutrition and Sustainable Agri-food Collaborative, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation (Nkabom Collaborative) has expanded its Trainer of Trainers (ToT) initiative to 30 students of the Kwadaso Agricultural College in the Ashanti Region.
The 10-day training is designed to equip students with practical skills in agribusiness development, problem-solving and mindset transformation.
The programme aims to nurture entrepreneurial thinking and support participants to develop innovative solutions to challenges within the agricultural value chain.
Participant Tanorb Namibia Gabriel said the sessions had encouraged him to explore sustainable approaches to livestock feed production.
“We have been introduced to practical ways to generate innovative ideas that can be developed into real businesses,” he said.
He explained that he is developing an idea that uses black soldier flies and maggots as an alternative protein source for livestock feed, noting that the approach could help reduce the high cost of feed in poultry and aquaculture.
Another participant, Elizabeth Tutu, praised the facilitators for their interactive teaching methods, saying the approach made the concepts clearer than traditional classroom delivery.
She said the training had guided them to identify problems, trace root causes and design workable solutions.
“The training approach has already helped me identify practical and workable solutions within the agricultural value chain,” she said.
Lois Adutwumwaa Mensah, a tutor at the college, described the Nkabom initiative as a critical link between theoretical learning and practical entrepreneurship.
She said the programme was helping students not only to develop business ideas but also to sustain them.
“The training has truly empowered students to start turning their ideas into real agribusiness ventures,” she said.
